What we store

You can use Destination42 without an account. To avoid repeating the same place too often, a small session cookie lets us remember which locations you've recently seen. We also keep anonymous counts of jumps, tied to a scrambled session identifier rather than to you. If you choose to sign in, we also store your email address (see "Accounts" below).

Street View imagery

Panoramas are loaded directly from Google via the Google Maps Embed API. When you view a jump, your browser communicates with Google's servers to display the map. That exchange is governed by Google's own privacy policy, not ours - we don't see or store anything from it.

Advertising

Destination42 is a non-profit site. We may show adverts served by Google AdSense, and all income from them goes to the charities named on our About page. When ads are active, Google may use cookies to serve ads based on your visits to this and other sites. You can find out more, and manage your ad preferences, through Google's own Ads Settings.

Cookies

We use only the minimum needed for the site to work: a session cookie that remembers your recent jumps and, if you sign in, keeps you signed in until you close your browser or sign out. Where enabled, ads may set their own cookies (see above). We don't run any of our own tracking or analytics cookies.

Accounts

Signing in is optional and free. You enter your email address and we email you a one-time 6-digit code; there are no passwords. If the address is new, entering the code creates your account.

We store your email address, when your account was created and when you last signed in, plus short-lived records of the codes we send (kept for at most 48 hours). If you ask for a code but never complete sign-in, we delete that address within 48 hours. To limit abuse we briefly keep a scrambled (hashed) record of how often codes are requested from an email address or network.

We use your email address only to sign you in. We don't send marketing emails and we don't share or sell your address. Sign-in emails are sent through our web host's email service.

Your rights

If you don't have an account, we hold no personal data that identifies you. If you do, you can ask us at any time, via our Contact page, for a copy of your data, to correct it, or to delete your account and email address, and we'll do it promptly.
